Local Occasional
Preachers Module
This single, extended module of the Discipleship Training programme has been designed for those people who preach in their local church at the invitation of their Vicar but who do not hold the Bishop's license to do so.
The module is made up of 14 sessions, 7 of which are studied online on your own and the other 7 of which are held as Shared Learning Moarnings (SLMs) on Zoom with other students.
10 of the sessions explore the New Testament and the other 4 (which are all on Zoom) explore the nuts and bolts of what makes a good preacher (including living a preaching life, preparing a sermon, authenticty and integrity in the pulpit, etc). Some students also opt to study the Old Testament module but this is not required.
Time commitment for each session is around 7-10 hours depending on your speed of study. As for all other modules, sessions can be accessed on a computer, tablet or mobile phone.
The module starts in January each year with one Shared Learning Morning (SLM) on preaching and then continues in May for 14 weeks with study of the New Testament. It concludes with one further SLM in November (SLMs are always on Saturdays and run from 9.00am to 1.00pm on Zoom. One SLM may be in-person and this will be clearly indicated on the Term Dates page and within the module itself).
If you would like to sign up for this extended single module please click on the Apply tab above and select the Single Module link. You will find the module in the drop-down box.
